“Now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.” (John 17:5)
Oh!! What that must have been like!!
The glory of God as He glorified Christ “with thine own self,” before the world was. It seems Christ was longing for that again while He walked the earth. This is what stands out to me at the opening portion of Christ's Prayer to His Father. Even more so when He works back around to it at the end of His prayer, praying to share that glory with US!!! No sibling rivalry here.
Read those verses again, and bask in that idea.
The Son of God worked to fulfill the Father's desire; He gave His siblings (born-again believers) that wondrous glory of His Father's which He treasured from before creation. He prayed for the completion of God's plan from the beginning: Our perfection as we are brought into the union He has with the Father.
“I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one, … that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.”
Regardless of how you see yourself, regardless of the status of your earthly existence, your level of spiritual understanding, or the maturity of your soul, if you are a born-again child of God, THIS is your ETERNAL CONDITION, your SPIRITUAL POSITION: The person of Christ, the Son of God, lives in you; over 100 verses say so. Christ never leaves you. He'll never forsake you. His yoke is easy, and His burden light. He's with you through everything. He'll get you through anything.
And the Holy Spirit (Comforter, Spirit of Truth, Teacher) is there to teach you of Christ in you, working toward the goal of maturing you to the full statute of Christ.
